This family of four was blessed to find a beautiful custom lot in the foothills to build their dream home. They were very organized with their wish list and knew they wanted a clean contemporary feel, but the endless opportunities of design were overwhelming them. After considering several concept plans, the winning kitchen design was one that created a buffet in the dining area that alleviated the overcrowding of appliances in the kitchen and allowed us to keep the large window and stunning views of the mountains. The original inspiration for refrigeration was a cluster refrigerator/freezer/wine column that meant 12ft of appliances on a 14ft wall. Once we split up this concept, the design seemed to fall into place and created a perfect workflow triangle. A microwave drawer was selected due to the limited wall space and placed on the island which is a hub for large gatherings and includes a warming drawer, a beverage cooler and a prep sink. The stain color of the cabinets was very dark so the clients elected to do it on oak which would add some depth and texture. For the size of the space, the appliances might have seemed overwhelming and cold in stainless steel, so we custom paneled all that we could so it seems more inviting. Soft grays and creams were used throughout the house and are the perfect backdrop for the dessert contemporary setting.
