Making a long story Short
First, it was what if we get rid of some of a wall and the contractor said sure. Next, it was what if we get rid of the whole wall, a couple challenges but it could be done! Then it was ‘what’s the biggest island we could do?’ I outlined the space we had to work with and when they asked me to make it all one island I had to do some research to rationalize it would work.

Ultimately, we supersized the island deciding there was plenty of room for furniture layout and the counter fabricator could make a nice seam. Careful consideration was taken planning the storage and placement of pieces including a sink and microwave drawer. Seating for four was incorporated on the far side. We also supersized the height of cabinets along the back wall with stacking cabinets and supersized the appliances with a 48” Wolf Range, 48” Sub Zero and 30” Wine Refrigerator. One thing leads to another, we added a dry bar and entertainment area across the room in matching cabinets. Then we added a laundry room in a fun light grey with encaustic tile floors. The kids bathroom matched the island with some fun tile patterns and finally we did dark moody office in shades of black on the walls, floors, cabinets counters and furniture.
