Rustic Remodel

The location and some of the architectural features of this house were to die for, but some of the spaces were out of place and not in line with what one would expect when driving up and seeing this magnificent home. The kitchen was outdated with stock cabinets and the island was quite insignificant and there was a metal support post right smack in the middle of this sad space. Off to the side, there was a massive laundry room that looked like an afterthought of a space and lacked any function or storage. The kitchen space was improved by engineering the post into an exterior wall and removing a niche to lengthen the kitchen which allowed for a proper size island. My favorite granite fabricator worked to customize a sink to allow for maximum counter surface on the new island.

The 48” refrigerator and the 30” oven/microwave were left in the same space, but cabinets were customized to allow for as much space around the cooktop to do prep work and allow for a grandeur hood feature. The cabinet manufacturer custom finished the cabinetry to match all the window and door casings for congruity. Taking a page from the kitchen, the laundry room got a complete makeover. The same cabinetry with added storage features. A hanging rod/drying rack is conveniently located next to the washer and dryer while cabinets over the washer and dryer store all the laundry necessities. A bench seat with drawers for shoes and overhead hooks for coats and hats serves as part mud room for my Midwestern clients. Then there was still room to add a tall linen cabinet for storing all their gear for enjoying the mild winter weather and activities that brought them to Tucson.
