Luxury Retreat Remodel
When the owner of a granite shop desired a new bathroom for his wife, there were no limits on the use of stonework and he asked for elements that would make a woman feel like a queen. The centerpiece began with taking out the basic tub and shower enclosure in exchange for a freestanding tub paired with an ethanol fireplace and topped with a crystal chandelier to create an ambiance of romance and ultimate relaxation. Finding a color palette that incorporated grey and bridged the gap between trendy grey and the home’s existing warm earthy color palette was made simple with a glass and stone tile that blended both warm and cool. The mixture of materials had such a nice feel it was incorporated in the shower and was featured behind the vanity area for a dramatic effect.

The natural stone in the tile blend was available in slab form and the owner didn’t flinch at the idea of cladding the privacy wall in the shower with the stone. It makes for a very durable, low maintenance and attractive feature. To gain more storage space an awkward corner linen cabinet was removed to create a longer vanity and a linen cabinet with more flexible storage in adjustable shelves. Losing the one wall led to placing the medicine cabinets over each sink and finding units with the added feature of an interior outlet.
