Client bought this adobe row house adjunct to their residence to create a place for guests as space in the historic Barrio downtown is at a premium. The initial structure dates to 1911 and was in serious disrepair. For guests, they wanted the amenities of a full kitchen and to pay homage to a few intact details of origin all while staging a colorful MCM dichotomy. We explored several designs making the most out of very limited wall space and looking for opportunities to introduce color in unexpected ways. After reviewing options in compact appliances versus ‘standard’, we felt our design would support and achieve the best result not sacrificing on the appliances. Then we switched gears to stylizing. The inspiration for the blue color was launched from tile found in the bathroom and started out very simply with the back of the open spaces introducing the blue. That was until a piece of furniture gave us inspiration to change one in front of each base cabinet. With ample storage + work surface and a full menu of appliances and avant-garde style we couldn’t be happier with the result.
