This military family finally got their first house to call their own. With so many kitchens lived in they knew what they wanted but weren’t sure how to create it. After no less than 15 design options taking over adjoining spaces, the winning design was so simple it didn’t use any more space than the current kitchen did. The decision to fill in a window is never easy, but the redesign knocked down an adjacent wall that was going to bring in light from a much larger window with a better view. Instead of an island, the owner selected an option to do a peninsula thus creating a u-shape kitchen. This allowed for more seating at the bar for the family to gather around. Then an underutilized walk-in pantry transformed to accommodate the refrigerator and a more functional pantry with rollout shelves and vertical dividers. She loves to bake and where the shared wall with the dining room was opened up a deeper counter was created and made rolling out her famous cinnamon rolls much easier to work from three sides. Several long work spaces were created with the new layout that will allow the whole family to contribute to cooking and cleaning. Having moved so frequently, efficiency was the owners middle name and she specified the purpose of every cabinet and storage solutions were inserted to make daily operation optimum. The list includes: two super lazy susans, a double waste basket pullout, silverware organizer, and a spice organizer.
